A BRIEF HISTORY
We opened our doors on September 1st 2005. There had previously been a practice here which closed in 2004, and which we are not connected with in any way, except to share the same building.
At the time of opening we had no idea there would be such a high demand for a dentist in the area. We started with just 3 of us, one dentist, one nurse, one receptionist.
Very quickly we realised that we would need to expand to meet demand. We now have 5 dentists , 2 part time hygienists and 9 support staff. Several of our staff have gone on to have families and have returned to us part time. We are involved with training of new dental graduates and dental nurses, which is a very rewarding process and helps keep everyone up to date with any changes in dentistry.
We are now moving on to the next stage in our practice which involves us relocating. We have now moved to our new premises in Scarlow Street (5 minutes walk from our old premises). We moved on 12th January 2015. The new premises provides a much more pleasant environment as reception has more privacy and more space in the waiting room. The corridors and doorways are wider to allow better access for wheelchairs and prams. All the staff are very excited being in our new premises which also includes an office and dedicated storeroom which will make us much more organised.

Now here is the big reveal. For those who won’t have an immediate appointment with us, we thought we would share a few photos of the new place to encourage you to book that check-up.
We are all incredibly excited about our move and we’re obviously looking forward to seeing you in our fabulous new building – you probably won’t notice much of a difference from the old place though !!

We expect there to be some teething problems (ha-ha) as we settle into the new place but we hope that any disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum.
WE ARE SCHEDULED TO START IN OUR NEW PREMISES ON MONDAY 12TH JANUARY 2015
So after many months of building and 18months of planning we are now making the final arrangements for moving.
The building is looking fabulous and we can’t wait to show it off to everyone.
We don’t want to post any more pictures of inside before our big reveal, but I’m sure everyone will agree that the outside of the building looks fantastic. The tired old building looks fresh and modern now.

We are only 5 minutes walk from the old premises and whilst there is no parking attached there are plenty of car parks within a few minutes walk. There are 2 disabled bays directly across the road.

UPDATE 9th October
I’m sure some of you out there are eager to see how things are coming along at our new location in Scarlow St.
As you can see form the pictures, there is a lot of progress and that we still have some way to go before it looks anything like a Dental Practice. All of the surgeries have their walls up and wiring in and we are just in the process of finalising designs for our new reception desk and the signs that will go up inside and outside
We have also this past week selected the paint colours for the walls and are going to look at some waiting room furniture next week. A lot of decisions to be made but all very exciting.
We are still hoping very much to be in before Christmas so that we can open the doors to our customers with the Christmas tree and decorations up. If its not possible, then whilst we’d be sad, we know its better to have everything all working and safe, clean and tidy before opening the doors
Some of you may have noticed a banner on the side of the William St Building and we will also be handing out some flyers for those of you attending your appointments in the coming days and weeks just to highlight to everyone that this is happening – we are moving – but please ask staff if you have any concerns
Our wee building in William Street has served us well. We opened in 2005 and my intention then was that I would have a small practice , with maybe 1 other dentist and a part time hygienist.
I very quickly realised that there was a high demand in the area, and that we were seeing many people who had not attended a dentist in many years. Our small team grew and grew. We started working with the Childsmile team to promote oral health, our nurses all became qualified, and many went on to gain further qualifications.
Several babies later for the team (5 and one on the way!) and not only have our team and families grown, but we have started to outgrow our building.
Various things prompted the thought of moving.
First and foremost , whilst our surgeries are well equipped and a good size, I’ve always been aware that our reception and waiting area are just a bit cramped. Ideally we would have a separate reception and waiting area , and an office for all the admin stuff that happens behind the scenes to make the practice run smoothly.
Secondly, in 2006, I was involved in mentoring a new graduate (Vocational Dental Practitioner – VDP) and really enjoyed it. The VDP’s stay in a practice for a year, working 4 days per week and having a study day each week where they learn more advanced skills. This was a great year for the practice as it helps keep our team developing as the new dentist brings fresh ideas and skills and are very up to date with their knowledge. Our VDP at the time stayed with us so we opted out of training after that.
I’ve always been keen to return to training and mentoring, although we don’t have the space where we currently are. So, another idea was planted…
We were then approached by Riverside Inverclyde, who are refurbishing old council premises on Scarlow Street, and wondered if we were interested in leasing part of the building (the rest will be offices).
So, a year in planning and work should be starting soon. The new premises will be fantastic. We will have 5 modern surgeries, reception and separate waiting room , office, staff room, patient toilet, staff toilet and a decontamination room (where we clean all the instruments). The area will be much more easily accessible for wheelchair users and give much greater privacy for people at reception area.
The extra surgery will also allow us to return to mentoring and training a VDP, who will start with us in August, initially sharing a room with me until we move.
I’m so proud of how far we have come in 9 years, and love how much I feel part of the local community and working with people of Inverclyde.
