Childsmile is reducing inequalities in oral health and ensuring access to dental services for every child across the country.
Aim to register your baby with a dentist after birth or by the time they are six months old. Following registration and initial consultation you should aim to take your child to the dental practice every six months or as advised by your dental team.
Taking your baby to the dental practice as early as possible helps them to get used to the sights, sounds and smells of a dental practice and give you access to information, advice and support for looking after your child’s teeth.
At Belhaven Dental Surgery you will be given advice and support from the Childsmile nurses who will show you how you can help your child keep healthy teeth and hopefully prevent them from suffering tooth decay in the future.

At your initial visit, it may be an extended duties nurse you see. The dental nurse will take you through the points above
The dentist will check your child’s teeth and gums at least once a year from approx. 18 months old and provide any treatment your child may require. These visits will also help your child to become familiar with being examined by a dentist.
From the age of 2, Belhaven can provide additional preventative care.
